Privacy policy
GrillMate is an iPhone app for logging barbecue cooks, barbecues and recipes. This policy explains what data the app handles, where it's kept and the choices you have. In short: GrillMate doesn't collect your data. Everything you enter stays on your device and, if you turn on iCloud sync, in your own private iCloud.
Who is responsible
GrillMate is developed by Andrea Stevanato, an individual developer based in Italy, who is the data controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Contact: grillmateapp@gmail.com.
Data you enter in the app
The app stores what you add to it: your barbecues, cookings, recipes, notes, temperatures and the photos you attach. This data is saved on your iPhone, in the app's private storage. It isn't sent to the developer or to anyone else.
The app also keeps a few settings on the device: whether you've seen the welcome tour, the appearance, accent color and app icon you chose, and whether iCloud sync is on.
iCloud sync
If you turn on iCloud sync in Settings, your data and photos are stored in your private iCloud database (Apple CloudKit), tied to your Apple Account, so they're available on your other iPhones. Only you can access this database: the developer can't see or read it. Apple handles this data under the Apple Privacy Policy. You can turn sync off at any time; the data then stays on the device.
Camera and photo library
GrillMate asks for access to the camera only when you choose to take a photo for a cooking or a recipe. Photos picked from your library go through the iOS photo picker, which shares only the photos you select. Photos are used only to attach them to your cookings and recipes.
Export and import
When you export your data, the app creates a file and you choose where to save or share it. When you import a file, its content replaces the data in the app. The developer never receives these files.
What GrillMate doesn't do
- No accounts or sign-in.
- No analytics, crash reporting or advertising SDKs.
- No tracking across apps or websites, and no data sold or shared with third parties.
- No in-app purchases.
If a future version adds any of these (for example crash reports or in-app purchases), this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the change will be described in What's new.
This website
This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. It uses no cookies, analytics or third-party scripts. To deliver the pages and keep the service secure, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address, as described in the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
Your choices and rights
- See and export your data at any time in the app, and with Settings → Data → Export data.
- Delete single items in the app, or delete the app to remove everything on the device. To delete synced data, remove GrillMate's data from iCloud in the iOS Settings app → your name → iCloud → Manage Storage.
- Stop syncing by turning off iCloud sync in Settings → Data.
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and port your personal data, and to object to its processing. Since the developer doesn't hold any of your data, you can exercise these rights directly in the app and in iCloud as described above. For any question, write to grillmateapp@gmail.com. You can also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority; in Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
Children
GrillMate is suitable for everyone and doesn't knowingly collect data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with a new effective date. Significant changes are also mentioned in What's new.
